Press Release:
Jefferson Cutter House August Art Exhibition

Local artist A.E. Irvine’s paintings inspired by the sky will be featured during the month of August in the Jefferson Cutter House Gallery. Open to the Public and Family Friendly

A.E. Irvine, Elizabeth to friends and family, grew up in the Shenandoah Mountains of Virginia, where she developed an innate love of nature. “While the city fascinates me, a part of me needs calm and introspection,” says Irvine. “I find that calm through my art.” The artist received her BFA from James Madison University and currently paints, teaches and works at ARTBEAT, Your Creativity Store located in East Arlington. Irvine’s painting Morning Moon over Spy Pond was recently awarded second place in the Arlington Center for the Arts seventh annual People’s Choice Awards.

Using the sky as inspiration, Irvine created a collection of pieces that speak about vastness, transience and those deeply rooted thoughts that are difficult to put into words but are intimately felt. “For me paintings are living things. They breath, they speak, and they share themselves with the viewer,” Irvine explains. The paintings are often delicate with fine wisps of line or color in a vast organic space. Some are dark with illuminating points of light and still others are representational, but all have a feeling of life and movement hidden in the paint.
